What is Planet Friendly Firewood?
We know the industry is full of greenwashing so we want to be clear with what we mean by 'planet friendly firewood'
We're passionate about the planet. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do and it's the reason Love Logs was born!
Like you, we were horrified every time our firewood turned up either in plastic nets, or on a pallet bound in plastic wrap and knew we needed to do it differently. We wanted to offer a solution that didn't involve us throwing away unnecessary plastic every time we stocked up on firewood.
However just being plastic-free isn't enough, we want to be sure that everything we do is as sustainable and socially responsible as it can be. Here are some of the ways we make sure our firewood is planet friendly.
We source our firewood exclusively from sustainable British woodland
Many UK log companies offer cheaper imported Eastern European firewood that travels over 1,000 miles to get to you. By only offering British firewood, we minimise road miles and reduce carbon emissions.
Sustainable forests are managed to simulate natural patterns of disturbance and regeneration, so carefully selected trees are removed for firewood to create temporary gaps in the canopy that benefit the forest wildlife. Replacement trees are planted which balance out the carbon dioxide released by burning the felled trees, making the practice carbon neutral.
You can read more about sustainable forests here and here.
High quality firewood emits less pollutants
All of our firewood is guaranteed to contain less than 20% moisture content. Logs with low moisture content produce fewer particulate emissions and other pollutants when compared to wetter logs, and they also produce more heat and burn longer so you can use fewer logs.
All of our logs are dried in biomass fuelled kilns - sustainable fuel producing sustainable fuel!
We don't use plastic. At all. Ever!
We choose to ship in 100% recyclable cardboard boxes and use only paper tape to seal them.
We work with all of our suppliers to minimise and, where possible, totally remove any plastic within the supply chain.
We plant a tree for every order
We partner with Ripple Africa who run tree-planting and conservation projects in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world
Ripple Africa help local communities protect and replenish local forests, and plant fruit trees for food and income. They have so far planted an eye-watering 21 million trees in the country.

For the entire month of July and the whole of Black Friday week, we also made a donation for each order to Plastic Bank to remove the equivalent of 10 plastic bottles from the ocean.
